On April 1st 2013 our Parks and Recreation Department received an unprecedented memo saying:
“Please be advised that beginning with the 2013-2014 fiscal year (April 1,2013), administration of the Land Preservation Fund, including all millages, fund balances, properties and other assets will be directed by the Charter Township of Oakland Superintendent and the Board of Trustees.” View the Memo
Oakland Township residents voted for this millage and have paid into it for years. Our Parks Commission has done a great job with this money acquiring and protecting hundreds of acres of beautiful land. Having campaigned on transparency. the Board of Trustees:
- Held no public hearings on this;
- Never discussed it in any open meeting;
- Never voted on this attempted seizure;
- Never said why they did it nor what they intend to do with their new power.
